OUCH!!!!
It can cost more to wire your dollhouse than your real one!
Between the fixtures (you want good quality with replaceable bulbs), the costs of adapters for the push-in to the spring loaded eyelets, and all the other odds and ends, it's a fortune! It makes replacing 20 windows pale in comparason.
Why is it so expensive?
The brads, eyelets, etc are CHEAP! I can get them in sterling silver for less than the dollhouse company sells them in brass! And, selling them 2 or 20 at a time is sort of pointless! Ecologically it's a disaster with all that packaging, and it raises costs as much as 10x.
I know I can't be alone in using dozens if not hundreds of eyelets in wiring a house. Between providing electrical connections and physical holes, it adds up.
The spring loaded eyelets are a dollar each! Why is that? Why aren't they available in packs of 20, or 100, or by weight?
I can *almost* understand selling the spring loaded ones by count, but the standard brass ones should be sold by weight (after all, that is how they are _counted_ anyway! DO you think someone actually counts out 100 pieces, or do they just put them on a counting scale?)
And the costs of plugs and outlets? There is a max of .10 of materials, and they charge $3
I realize the "demand" is not huge by general standards, but with modern electification, and higher end dollhouses becoming more popular, the need for BULK quantities of connectors is rising. Dolling out the parts one at a time (as they seem to be) seems counter productive.
It sets a mindset that electrification is too expensive.
That drives DOWN demand, and feeds into the mindset of keeping the price up -- until priced out of business.
I know I need bulk quanties, and would be buying much, much more of the items if they were at fair prices. I realize everyone has a different idea of "fair," but I've been in crafting since I was old enough to hold a hammer, and the cost of the dollhouse electrical components has always amazed me.
What's your opinion?
