House of Miniatures Furniture Kits Can't Post

It started simply, but I've amassed a huge stock of these vintage kits.

Prices on the auction sites have gone high on some of them, especially the chairs. I have quite a few chair kits, as well as all the others. Some are not for sale (at least until I build them), some I paid quite a bit for. Others I have available in our shop.

Originally, the kits sold for about $10 each + shipping, (except for the smaller kits), so current market is not really that high, considering. Some of the smaller kits are worth more, while others, like the candle stands are not. Many kits are going for $10-20, with some kits like the larger chests and highboys going for $80+. Some rarer kits like the fireplaces also go for $20-40 depending on the time of day and phases of the moon, it seems. The chairs variously go for $18-35 a kit, and they tend to drive the prices of "lots" of kits up as well.

These are really well done kits, and while not every piece is right for every house, the designs were picked so that they fit as "antiques" in almost any house built after their designated period.

The caveat is that they have to be built, and the time and care you take in building them determines the quality of the end result. Most people start out with high-hopes (which is why so many of these kits are still around 20 and even 30 years after production!), but never get past staring at all the little parts in the boxes.

I haven't found a check list, and the only price guide is the auction prices, which are high/low and not truly reflective of value of the individual kits either in the quantity of wood, the quality of workmanship, or the desirability for your dollhouse, or general demand. Demand is higher for the chair kits, since you need 4-6 chairs for each table. I guess that is how it goes.

We'll buy House of Miniature kits in lots, if you have them to sell. Stop by the shop or leave a PM here. Average price we'll pay is $4-5, less for some of the really common kits, more for some of the larger, rarer kits. We'll also buy dollhouse kits from most manufacturers, and accessory kits (realistic wood kits), and room boxes. Finished dollhouses are considered on an individual basis. Higher end kits can be taken on consignment.

We are interested in the houses, wood kits, finishing materials that go directly into the houses such as flooring and windows and doors. We are not as interested in the decorations (the chairs, tables, furniture, etc) except the higher-end craftsman quality pieces. Our interest is in building, repairing, and renovating houses and working in fine-scale wood miniatures.

There are other places around town you can find the decorations and furnishings for your houses :)

If there is a HOM kit you are looking for, and don't want to deal with the auction systems or wait, send a PM, if we have it, we'll quote you a price. We'll have the available kits out in the shop shortly, for browsing.
