Newbie needs some Advice Can't Post

So I've been interested in miniatures for quite awile, and been doing research on all the aspects. I think I have a fairly good idea of things, but I'm short of money, so I thought why not try and make a dollhouse from scratch? I realise a kit is easier from the standpoint of cutting, design, accuity, etc. but I can't afford the sort of money needed, I'm a poor student lol. I have access to the sorts of tools needed, but I'm looking for people that have created a house from scratch to get some advice from, where to start, what thickness plywood to use, how to handle windows, roofing etc. I live in a country town in Australia, so supplies of ready-made things will basically rely on the (very) few online stores we have for miniaturists. I'd like to do as much as I can on my own, makeshift. If anyone had good sites about this they can recomend that would also be great. I have been googling all night but get the same 10 or so.
